Polycarbonate made Power Cube to actuate The Green Growth!
“Technical innovation is key to achieve green growth by creating incentives for greater efficiency in the use of natural resources, reducing waste and energy consumption, allocating resources to the highest value use, and unlocking opportunities for value creation” (Song and Wang, 2018).
Pollution is nothing but the resource we are not harvesting in. We allow them to disperse because we are ignorant of their value. With the Industrial pollution reaching it’s peak in the early 21st century, Green Growth Seeks to achieve economic growth and environmental sustenance at the same time. During the design process of the revolutionary cube, the manufacturers aimed to provide greater efficiency by reducing the waste. The use of Polycarbonate proved to be a revolutionary step for Surge protectors or any kind of Power strips, which generally use non-recyclable plastics.
The six sides of the PowerCube are protected by a white casing. The front side of it has a USB plug and the backside has the plug that connects to the main power outlet. Each of the four remaining sides have a socket. The front side ( USB plug) and backside (outlet) are made of a stiffer and stronger polymer than the rest of the cube. This is because these sides need a much harder and rigid material.
These faces are made of a mixture of polymers. Polycarbonate and ABS (Acrylonitrite-butadiene-styrene) are the polymers that are used.

Apart from the mechanical properties of ABS which are impact resistance, stiffness and rigidity ABS is relatively harmless in that it doesn't have any known carcinogens, and there are no known adverse health effects related to exposure to ABS. Its strong, stiff plastic holds up well to external impacts.
Also ABS's impact resistance doesn't fall off rapidly at lower temperatures.
The other material used, Polycarbonate is an excellent engineering polymer. Polycarbonate has a good balance of properties imbibed with good temperature resistance, excellent impact resistance and superb optical properties.
Polycarbonate (PC) is a high-performance tough, amorphous and transparent thermoplastic polymer which has an organic functional groups linked together by carbonate groups and offers a unique combination of properties.
Polycarbonate is mainly used in PowerCube because it takes full advantage of its own collective safety featuers. With its good electrical insulation properties along with heat-resistant and flame-retardant properties, Polycarbonate plastic is also 100% recyclable and identified by recycling code “7”.
The body frame ( grey parts) of the PowerCube which connects the power cable with the electronic devices is made of PBT ( Polybutylene terephthalate). PBT is a thermoplastic engineering polymer that is used as an insulator in the electrical industry. Polybutylene terephthalate has gained commercial interest due to its wide range of applications ranging from automotive, electrical and electronics, medical and many more.
In conclusion an electronic device like the PowerCube should be your choice to smartly include use of multiple devices at the same time in the most efficient and green sustainable way. The materials used for the making of the Powercube as you can see, all adhere to a better environmental contribution and is recyclable too!
